Hellraiser Wiki

This page is about the character first appearing in Hellraiser: Judgment. For the Cenobite, see Surgeon (Cenobite).

After that, we wait to hear the verdict from The Jury. And if guilty, you will be taken to be cleaned and then to The Surgeon.

The Auditor to Karl Watkins

The Surgeon is a demon worker from Hell, and a member of The Auditor's department, known as the Stygian Inquisition, a separate organisation from the Cenobites. They are responsible for the judgement of those who enter Hell. Unlike Pinhead's Gash, the Auditor's department does not serve the Order of the Gash religion and therefore its members are not classified as Cenobites.

There is little information on the origins of the sinister servant of Hell, known as The Surgeon, other than that he is a member of the Stygian Inquisition, one of Hell's many orders that serves the whims of their dark master Leviathan. The Hell Priest Pinhead and the Auditor of the Stygian Inquisition discussed how best to adapt their methods of harvesting evil souls in the face of advancing human technology which was making the Puzzle Boxes obsolete. On Earth, the Auditor and his fellow members of the Stygian Inquisition lures their victims (candidates) to houses on earth which connect to hell, evaluating their sins and desires to decide their fate. Occasionally, its victims are deemed more suited to join the Cenobites. The sinner is then taken away, cleansed and then brought before The Surgeon. Here, the condemned's skin is expertly removed by the diabolical Surgeon.

  • The casting call for Hellraiser: Judgment called for a "Male, 30-60. The skinniest guy we can find. A full or partial lower limb amputee. Either a dancer or martial arts expert, or perhaps even a full or partial lower-limb amputee, giving him a real Road Warrior feel. He is lowered on a harness, Mission Impossible style." The character was brought to life by a make-up effects team led by Mike Jay Regan and Mike Measimer.
